Waste Not Logo Welcome to our new Waste Not Want Not project. This project, much like SAMS is about reducing waste, this time it's food waste.  The idea is that you pre-pay £5 per week for a tray of food, enough to feed your family. Pre-paying ensures that when we buy it, will not be wasted. Nothing goes to waste. If there is anything surplus or you don't collect on the specified day we will give the food to a homeless charity in the local area. The  collection time is weekly on Tuesday after 1.30pm, if you would like to reserve a tray for next week either pop into SAMS at the Energy Zone or contact Joe on 01254 291271. Like our Facebook page here to follow what is happening this week.

Thanks for taking the time to find out more about our Friends for Life Project. This project has now finished. We would like to thank everyone who came and joined in with the activities, had fun and most importantly made friends. PLease keep an eye on our website for news of other activities in the future months.   Friends For Life (FFL) was all about engaging with the over 55’s within Blackburn with Darwen to reduce social isolation. The project was run from its very own dedicated room within the Energy Zone and is funded by the BIG Lottery fund until July 2016.   Here at FFL we offered interesting & fun activities chosen by our Friends which were both enjoyable and engaging. As such our FFL room had 2 sections. One was a comfy lounge area to relax in, to have a brew and a natter or watch a film. The second was a large area to host our different classes including; Dance with Mary, Yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, Art and crafts, Knit and Natter and Writing for Pleasure. We also had dedicated Sewing and Craft rooms with Sewing machines, over lockers and everything you could possible need to create your very own creations. If you prefer to be outside then we had the Gro-Zone available where you could learn all about growing your own fruit and veg in our well stocked planters. If power tools are your thing then woodwork was the place for you where you could make planters, bird tables, herb boxes or even a child’s mini table and chair.   f4l Pictured: Roy learns to make Curtains in Pauline’s sewing class. f4l Pictured: Eileen makes a Herb Box in Woodwork.

Energy Zone was set up with a clear vision - to improve the capacity, capability and competitiveness of social enterprises operating in Pennine Lancashire while at the same time enhancing and developing a valuable community resource. Our shared vision is clear - to improve the lives of people living and working in Pennine Lancashire.

Helen Smith

Project Co-ordinator SAMS

The work I do here at SAMS is a blend of the three things I am most passionate about, working with vulnerable and disadvantaged people, using Art therapeutically and being able to give to those who are in need, support. The work I do is hugely rewarding from seeing every day people producing works of personal art! tel: 01254 291 278 email: Helen@cbpartners.org

SAMS Supervisor

Being a little bit bonkers helps me in my line of work. I work at Energy Zone, supervising the SAMS (Scrap Art Material Store) Project. We collect and distribute 'waste' materials as art and craft resources. My boss calls me the skip rat because I am always rooting about to see what local business’ are throwing away! If your company has waste materials that we could offer for reuse, please get in touch. tel: 01254 291271 / 07921 621 733 email: joanne@cbpartners.org
